Markus Fischer's Marmorera is scheduled to be screened at the Brussels International Festival of Fantastic Film (BIFFF) on April 8th. Rialto Film AG released the movie theatrically in Switzerland on January 25th. Fischer's own Snakefilm GmbH is the international sales agent for it.

As was previously reported here and there on ScreenAnarchy, the screenplay for Marmorera was written by Fischer and Dominik Bernet, based on the eponymous novel by Bernet. The movie stars Anatole Taubman as Simon Cavegn, Eva Dewaele as Julia, Mavie Hörbiger as Paula Cavegn, Urs Hefti as Romano Giovanoli, Mathias Gnädinger as Gregor Sonderegger, Stefan Gubser as Rudolf Lozzo, Hanspeter Müller as Dr. Michael Rand, Peter Jecklin as District Attorney Motta, Ursina Lardi as Dr. Alexandra Kovach, Pit-Arne Pietz as Dr. Christian Berger, Jessica Früh as Silvana Meyer, Corin Curschellas as Rosa Pelegrini, Ueli Jäggi as Heiri Caplott, Federico Pfaffen as Lucca Rizzi, Patrick Frey as Jürg Palottas, Dominique Jann as Thomas Palottas, Tatjana Steinbichl as Nurse Hanna, Ludwig Boettger as Dr. Sandro, and Hans-Peter Ulli as Nelli Affeltranger.

Here's a description of Marmorera from the BIFFF website: "In the early 50ties, the Alpine village of Marmorera and the surrounding valley were flooded for a local dam project. Today there's a new village, but what lies beneath the water cannot find any rest. A mysterious young woman with long red hair is rescued from the lake. Nobody knows where she came from or who she is. The woman is transferred to a psychiatric institute in Zurich. When psychiatrist Simon Cavegn - himself originally from Marmorera - begins to treat her, unexplained phenomena start to occur. Inhabitants from Marmorera begin to die in the most horrible ways. Simon discovers that the deaths are connected to his patient. But the more he starts to unravel the secret of the sunken village, the more he becomes estranged from his wife and colleagues.

Switzerland is not really know for its fantastic films, but this might soon change with Marmorera. Director Markus Fischer has realized an enthralling mystery-thriller with everything that makes the genre work. The story is beautifully shot and lit, and the special effects truly enhance the story. Belgian ballet dancer Eva Dewaele makes quite an impression in her first feature film part as Julia, the siren from Lake Marmorera. She's supported by Anatole Taubman (Equilibrium, Aon Flux, Blood & Chocolate) as haunted psychiatrist Simon Cavegn.

Markus Fischer (Zurich, 1953) started his career in the film industry in 1970, working as a camera assistant, assistant director, editor, sound engineer, and cinematographer, as well as a screenplay writer, composer of film music, and director.

Marmorera is his eighth long feature."
