While you may not recognize Don Dohler by name if you're reading this site it's almost inevitable that his influence has had some sort of effect on you. While his own films are legendarily bad - a fact he openly acknowledges and is totally fine with - Dohler has left a large stamp on both the worlds of cult film making and underground publishing. In the underground comics world he has rubbed shoulders with the likes of R. Crumb and Art Spiegelman but, more importantly to b-movie fans, Dohler is also the founder of Cinemagic, a magazine that inspired countless DIY film makers and effects artists, among them JJ Abrams, Tom Savini and Tom Sullivan - all of whom feature prominently in this new documentary on Dohler's life and work.

Blood, Boobs and Beast is a fairly typical talking head style documentary on Dohler but what sets it apart from the pack is the level of access Dohler granted the film makers. Shot over a two and a half year period the film follows Dohler through the troubled production of his latest film and intercuts that footage with extensive interviews of Dohler - not exactly known for being a chatty man - discussing his life work while notable figures such as Savini, Sullivan and Abrams talk about his influence on their work.
