The Gomorrahizer has done a very thorough job tracking the controversy around Joel Bender's Karla, the true crime film due to release into Canadian theaters today. Well, local radio station CKLN - local both to me and the murders - will be having the film's producer on the air today from 2:30 - 3:00 pm to discuss the film and they will be taking calls from the public, so if you want a better idea of what the two sides are saying on this, here's your chance to find out. While CKLN may be a Toronto radio station, they do have streaming audio from their website, so this can be heard world wide ...

Thanks to Jiangtou for the pointer and read on for all the details from the radio program's announcement ...

As some of you may be aware, the controversial movie KARLA opens Canada-Wide tomorrow.

The film documents the exploits of Canadian serial killer duo, Karla Homolka and Paul Bernardo (dubbed in the U.S. as the Ken and Barbie killers) and has generated a great deal of controversy since it was first announced. A number of Canadians are outraged at the idea that anyone would try to exploit these crimes for cinematic profit. Personally, this small minded attitude sickens me because Canadians have been mindlessly consuming American exploitation films for years and it's only now that Hollywood has decided to cash in on a bit of local misery have some of these myopic chones developed an inkling of social consciousness.

Anyway, I saw an advance screening of the flick earlier this week and not surprisingly, it's a thoroughly dreadful film. KARLA is nothing more than a painfully obvious, superficial, paint by the numbers, TV movie of the week. It's typical serial killer tripe that's no different that the standard variety straight-to-video nonsense that's been polluting video stores in recent years. So if you love wasting both your time and money, then you will definitely want to check this flick out but don't expect a shred of insight into the pathologies of Homolka and Bernardo and the twisted dynamic that allowed them to willingly commit these crimes together.

But on CINEPHOBIA tomorrow, my frequent co-host Chris Alexander and I will be discussing the flick and taking calls from the listeners and as a special, bonus treat, we'll also have the film's producer Michael D. Sellers in the studio with us.

Tune in between 2:30 & 3:00 p.m. EST tomorrow on CKLN 88.1 FM or listen online at: http://www.ckln.fm/listen/listen.html

We'll be taking calls at 416 595 1655 so don't be shy. Call in and give us your comments or ask Michael a question. We want to grill him as intensely as we can with the half hour available to us.

Also, I'm told this dude's an ex-CIA operative and has been interrogated by the KGB before so I'm sure he can handle it!
