Feng Xiaogang's The Night Banquet: A Chinese Adaptation of Hamlet With Zhang Ziyi and Daniel Wu Wit

I don't believe I've ever seen a Feng Xiaogang film so I haven't been paying particularly close attention to this one, but the full cast news released yesterday and that got my attention in a hurry.

The film is a loose adaptation of Hamlet with Daniel Wu as the Crown Prince, Zhang Ziyi as the Empress, and Ge You as the Emperor. Do I buy Ziyi as Wu's mother? Heck no, but I did say a loose adaptation, after all.

Behind the camera Xiaogang is drawing heavily on the Crouching Tiger crowd ... Yuen Wu Ping is serving as the film's executive producer while composer Tan Dun and designer Tim Yip reprise their roles.
